every part has an address.
Your shop is fifty-six containers, and Retriever knows what is in each one. Describe a part however you happen to remember it, then walk straight to the drawer.

what it actually does.
Four things, each one shown with the answer it hands back. The parts and addresses below come from an example shop rather than live data, but the shape is exactly what your team would be looking at once yours is set up.
- 01
search the way people actually talk
Type a part name, something you remember from the notes, a category, or an address. Search reads all four. Names match loosely, so a half-remembered “NEO pinion” still lands on “NEO Motor Pinion 14T”, and nobody needs to know the catalogue to find anything.

an address, not a label
Point a part at the container it actually lives in and Retriever writes the readable path for you. You choose how deep to go. You never type an address by hand, and you never have to fix the same one twice.

requests nobody has to chase
Anyone at the bench can ask for something you do not stock yet. The quantity, the priority, and the reason ride along with it. Discord hears about it right away, and it moves from requested to ordered to arrived where the whole team can watch it happen.

know before you run out
Set a minimum on any part and anything below it speaks up on the dashboard and in the notification tray. You order from a list that is already waiting for you, instead of finding out when you reach for the bin.

set it up once.
Setting Retriever up is just describing the room you already have, using the words your team already says out loud. After that the tree keeps track of the structure, and everyone else only ever has to search.
- 01
name the areas
Start with the places your team already points at from across the room. The example shop on this page has five of them: Huge Shelf, Under Center Table, Under 3DP Table, Husky, and Blue Drawers. Yours will be just as specific and will not be named anything like those.
- 02
subdivide only as far as you store
Go as deep as your storage really goes. Tiers and boxes, drawers and compartments, or nothing at all. An area with no subdivisions is already a complete address, so the shelf nobody has organised yet still works on day one.
- 03
hang parts off the deepest container
Every part points at a container rather than at a line of text, and the path you read is built from the tree above it. Rename a tier and every part under it is correct again right away. One edit, not one per part.
- 04
then hand it to the team
⌘K opens search from anywhere in the app, and recently viewed keeps whatever you just opened close by. Someone on their first day finds a part the same way the person who built the shop does.

Every answer here is about what Retriever does today, including the parts that might rule it out for you. Better you know now than three weeks after the whole team has started using it.
Do we have to label every bin before this is useful?
No. An area with no subdivisions is already a complete address, so “Blue Drawers” works the second you type it. Add drawers and compartments later, whenever the team gets around to it, and move parts down into them as you go.
What happens when we rename a shelf?
You rename it and that is the whole job. Parts point at a container, not at a piece of text, and the path you read is built from the tree, so the new name reaches everything underneath at once. You can reorganise the shop without a cleanup afterwards.
Can one part live in two places?
Yes. Each entry carries its own location and its own quantity, so you can stock the same part in two areas and both counts stay honest.
How does anyone find out a part was requested?
It posts to Discord the moment someone files it, with the quantity, priority, and reason attached. After that it moves through requested, ordered, and arrived, so people can see where it stands without chasing you for an update.
Will search understand how our team talks about parts?
It reads the part name, the notes, the category, and the address, and names match loosely. Someone who only half-remembers “NEO pinion” still gets to “NEO Motor Pinion 14T”, and whatever your team wrote in the notes is searchable too.
How do accounts and logins work?
Everyone signs in with their own account and joins your workshop by invite, so the inventory is not sitting on the open internet. Each person is an owner, admin, or member. Members can search, add and edit parts, reorganise locations, and move requests along. Owners and admins also manage who is on the team and the Discord link, and on Pro they can import from CSV. Only owners handle billing. On Pro, owners and admins can adjust any of that person by person.
nobody has to ask where it is.
Have a look around the live workshop before you decide anything. It is the same build this page describes, with nothing held back.
